Quantcast

Well, that's certainly a nice start, isn't it?  Kind of makes me wonder exactly how I feel about myself.  Anyway, in a remarkable show of extreme  narcissism, this page will be mostly devoted to...well...myself.  If you were curious, here's your chance to get into the brains of SGoM, and get a few tidbits about how it all really began.

Well...what can I say about myself.  To begin with, my name is pronounced "Ying-Jee" (two syllables) "Jah-ong" (one syllable).  Since that seems to be awfully hard on Western tongues, however, my friends have simply given me the nickname G, pronounced like the letter, not the "Guh" sound.

Well, moving on.  I am 19 years old, turning 20 in a little more than a month, and currently attending Virginia Tech (aka Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, if my mind doesn't fail me).  My major is Engineering Science and Mechanics (which is as obscure a major as it sounds.)  I haven't seen it in many schools, no more than eight or so around the US, in fact, but the field holds some major promise.  It does, in fact, relate very well to my future intended career - medicine.  I do believe I may eventually enter into a decent medical school and try to become  a doctor...an event all my friends are viewing as both an opportunity for amusement and something to be frightened about.  Probably because of all the times they watched me during some very messy dissections.

Ahem...aaanyway...I also fancy myself an artist (Artiste!  I am an artiste!  Pardon me for all the digressions, but I have to spend a bit of time reminding my friends of all these little inside jokes we've accumulated through the years.)  Back on topic - I fancy myself an artist with some talent, though I stand in awe of quite a few people my age whose artistic abilities are simply unbelievable.  I would list them, but you don't care, do you? *Stare*

I also like to think of myself as a semi-accomplished writer, though I've only had about...hmm...two of my works published in any kind of public work (high school magazine...*sigh*)  Truthfully, I'd prefer to become a writer or an artist if money wasn't an issue, but I'm not so confident in my abilities that I'm willing to risk the rest of my life in a studio apartment eating a can of beans to major in it.  A minor and a few sideline stories would be enough for me...for now.

Other than the aforementioned writing and artwork, my other, more infrequent, hobbies include racqetball, basketball, swimming, tennis, badminton, and the occasional bout of football.  I'm not a sports freak, but I do like to keep physically fit, so I try to run into the gym at least three times a week.  It usually doesn't work out that way, but at least I try.  I also enjoy dropping in unannounced to serenade my friends who happen to live on campus, usually when they least expect it, and often without any pre-assigned purpose.  C'est moi. (Shrugs)

I'm also something of an anime fan, the best I've seen being the Lodoss Wars, Tenchi Muyo, Akira, X/1999, Sorceror Hunters, and....Sailor Moon!  Don't laugh, damn you!  Sailor Moon is a cool anime!  The animation is usually quite wonderful and the storyline...well...is interesting when it's not overly sappy or cheesy.  Those were all from high school - I haven't had quite that much time in college to explore my interest in this particular field.

Despite what friends may think, I do enjoy the great outdoors, though the harsh glare of the computer monitor has replaced the soft light of a dusken sky.  So now, my main interests on computer include Half-life, Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War (at least until Warcraft 3 comes out), Age of Empires 2, Half-life: Firearms Mod, Master of Orion 2 (at least until MoO3 comes out), Half-life: Sven Coop Mod, and Half-life: Rocket Crowbar Mod.  See a pattern here?  I'm pretty big on Half-life...at least until Team Fortress 2 comes out.  In recent days, I haven't had time to do any of those except a little Firearms every now and then (and mostly thanks to this little thing you're reading right now.)

Ah...yes...I'm an avid reader as well.  Mostly, I prefer horror, fantasy, and science fiction, my favorite writers being H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Piers Anthony, a smudge of Brian Lumley, Clive Barker, a tiny bit of Stephen King, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, a bit of R.A.Salvatore, and, especially, David Eddings.  If anyone likes fantasy and hasn't read David Eddings, you have to read David Eddings.  It's just addictive.

And if I were given a choice between being able to fly and turning invisible, I would choose flight...
